RWFD Season 4 – Dataset #3 ~ Human Resources

We’re officially rolling with Dataset #3 of Season 4, and this one brings the people side of the business into focus. Say hello to the Human Resources dataset built for org charts, salary analysis, promotion trends, workforce dashboards, and more.

Whether you’re an HR analyst, Tableau newbie, or dashboard veteran, this dataset is packed with structure and nuance to flex your storytelling skills.

What’s in the Data?

This one’s modeled after the kind of structured HRIS export you might see from Workday, ADP, or SAP SuccessFactors but cleaned up and fictionalized to be ready and publicly shareable.

Key Dimensions:

  • Employee ID, Full Name, Job Title, Department, Gender, and Ethnicity
  • Manager ID (recursive relationship for org chart logic)
  • Hire Date, Termination Date, and Promotion Date
  • Work Location (On-Site/Remote), Office
  • Employee Status (Active, Terminated, On Leave)

Metrics & Analysis Fields:

  • Base Salary, Bonus, Total Compensation
  • Salary Ratio to Dept Avg (highlight outliers or pay equity)
  • Years at Company
  • Engagement Score

The recursive Manager ID field enables building hierarchical org charts, while calculated fields allow for pay ratio, promotion speed, and retention style visualizations. You may need to join the table to itself to build the manager > employee relationship

Need Ideas? Here are some Use Cases

This dataset works great for:

  • Gender or Pay Equity Dashboards
  • Tenure and Promotion Analysis
  • Attrition Heatmaps by Region or Department
  • Role Distribution and team structure diagrams
  • Internal Talent Pipeline Simulations

Need a challenge?

Need a starting point? Try building:

  • A compensation explorer with salary distributions by department
  • An org hierarchy tree with collapsible levels and KPIs
  • A promotion velocity dashboard segmented by role or location
  • A pay ratio equity checker with highlight tables and filters
  • A “flight risk” simulator using tenure and comp gaps

Get the Data, Share Your Build

The dataset is ready for download and open to all. Build something meaningful, quirky, or razor-sharp the only rule: tell a good data story.

📌 Don’t forget to tag your projects: #RWFD and #Tableau
