Viz Block – The Struggle is Real

I’ve talked about Viz Block before… getting a data set, and being 100% block on a direction, a story, or a shred of inspiration.

Week 40 of 2019 I got on the Struggle Bus once again… London Population data with a forecast as long as my arm. Lots of great data, and while I tried to avoid seeing twitter entries, a few got through, and they were awesome takes on the data.

Most of my struggles came in the form of a busy week of work… travelling a couple of days, so I was trying to do it at night in a hotel; not optimal for me. Because of this, I struggled to realize until Thursday that there was a Total record among the borough records that was throwing off everything I was trying to do!

Once I realized that, I was kicking myself because it was SO OBVIOUS, but in the stolen moments of trying to squeeze the viz in I was blond to it.

Once I discovered that, I blocked my lunch hour today and forced myself to finish. I stole my London Borough map from the London Bus Incident viz a few weeks back, and used that as the driver for some interactive highlighting on the different variables making up the population forecasts. It’s not my best work, but it’s not my worst. It will however, act as a reminder for me to always keep moving forward.

Whatever your struggle… never give up. Push forward, ask for help, change your perspective. Whatever it take; just keep going… in viz, and in life.
