Real World Fake Data – Human Resources Recap

Dataset #1 is in the books, and thanks to all those who participated, tweeted and retweeted to get the project moving!

Human Resources always feels like a dangerous area when it comes to the adoption of analytics. When we think adoption, we think “far and wide” but with HR data it can be extremely sensitive. More consideration about who sees what data and security in general come in to play. Even with those considerations, HR can really benefit from the adoption of analytics! Now while this dataset was 100% fabricated, it was really cool to see the different paths people took in their dashboard! Let’s take a look at some of the submissions!

Zak Geis – HR Diversity Dashboard

Zak’s take on the data focus on presenting statistics about diversity. Using the Gender bar graph at the top left of the dashboard, we can see how that theme is carried on through the dashboard as we look at Race and Hiring trends. Nice, simple interactive elements are here, with the ability to filter on gender and race. Once filter, you then have the option to show an employee list which those filters are carried through.

Will Sutton – RWFD Diversity Scorecard

Will’s take on the diversity scorecard is excellent. Highlight include a tasty donut chart, with the top 5 least diverse departments in gender and race. Included are some actions the company has taken to improve diversity. I love the creativity here! Great examples of how companies can narrate and annotate their story for easy consumption. Moving down the dashboard we get more details around the diversity stats. I love the red highlighting on the bar charts here to alert to when different slices of the data are above the diversity threshold parameter (next to the donut). Play around and see the result… very cool!

Shivam MittalHuman Resource Overview Dashboard

Shivam created a super clean dashboard, with a background created in Figma. Nice use of BANs across the top, and really nice iconography included to support the metrics. I like the options to download PDF and Excel… I’m a realist, I’m not happy about it, but it’s always asked for. The other really cool element here is the option to actually remove the visualization and go “full table view”. Nice work!

The next dataset is live, and it’s based on Financial Services Customer Complaints data. Be sure and head to data.world to check it out and get involved!
