I remember when Selection by Category was demoed at TC15 and being blown away by the possibilities. Truth, I never used it. I would imagine most people either uncheck the box or even forget it’s there as a possibility.
Well, I discovered today that you can actually marry this unsung feature with Set Actions and achieve some pretty cool results.
So, as a refresher, Selection by Category allows you to interact with the tooltip and use its elements to highlight and filter the visualization it’s a part of or visualization on the dashboard.
What I discovered today was that the Selection by Category will effect Set Action! If you set up the Set Action as you normally would, when you utilize the tooltip, it will change the set values.
In this example, I’m using the hex map to select the state, then select the region. Because I have the set as a filter on the other two worksheets, the tooltip interaction is filtering the other sheets.
